Grading/Prep Crews

Chagrin Valley Paving has two grading crews with minimum of 4 members in each crew who work as a team, unlike many other paving companies who do not have this specific division of labor. The main job of the grading crew is to prepare the base course and to clearly define the outlines for the paving crew’s installation. They set the grades for proper water management using state-of-the-art procedures. This is a key aspect for extension of asphalt life, as well as reducing puddles & water drainage problems. They are also trained to perform excavations whenever needed to replace any soft sub-base areas unsuitable for a proper base course.

Very few paving companies recognize the importance of a skilled grading crew as their work directly affects the life of asphalt. Incorrect grading or improper water management drastically reduces the life of asphalt, as water is the major enemy to asphalt. They have expertise in installing catch-basins at the proper grades for maximum water collection and installing drainage pipes wherever needed. They are also equipped to handle special requirements such as installation of erosion control mats, drain tiles, trench drains, berming, and seeding & mulching. Chagrin Valley Paving’s grading crew is highly skilled and experienced in following specific engineering designs and if necessary can come up with creative measures for any problems in lay out.
